How much does it cost?

Diggit is a productivity tool designed to save organisations money through boosting organisational efficiency and eliminating laborious data entry tasks. It has a 'pay-as-you-record' system, whereby organisations are billed at the end of each month based on that month's usage. We chose this model so that it scales equally to companies and sites of all sizes, while adapting to the fluctuating staff sizes and seasonal workload trends typical in archaeology.

International pricing has not been confirmed yet, but in the UK Diggit's only cost is £1.40 per new context recorded with the system. Everything else - app downloads, setup, storage, updates, data analysis, exports and support - is all free!

Diggit is an off-the-shelf digital recording system for all archaeologists, built on universal recording principles and designed and developed in consultation with archaeologists from across the industry - and the globe.

Through providing a unified, standardised system Diggit:

standardises archaeological data and increases interoperability
speeds up staff training
ensures device compatibility
allows for rapid, targeted support
streamlines the development of new features

The majority of Diggit's data inputs are optional to ensure maximum flexibility, and we're always listening to and working alongside archaeologists to make sure that Diggit meets their needs. So if there's a feature you'd like to see in our system that could benefit all archaeologists, then let us know about it!

For recording archaeology, the Diggitmobile app works on any Android or Apple smartphone or tablet - so you might not need to purchase any new hardware!

If you anticipate working on especially large and complex archaeological sites or infrastructure projects, then more modern/high-end mobile devices will provide a performance boost in processing the larger quantities of data you can expect there.

For analysing site data with Diggitweb, any desktop or laptop with an internet connection and web browser will do.

Can we use Android and Apple devices on the same site?

Sure! Sites can be recorded using any combination of Android and Apple phones and tablets. Archaeological recording can even be begun on one device, and finished on another.

Will Diggit integrate with our LiDAR/mapping?

Diggit works independently of and alongside your geospatial recording, and instead streamlines and standardises your recording of archaeological data - such as stratigraphic descriptions, interpretations and relationships etc.

You can use Diggit's exported data to enrich your own mapping data through combining the two datasets in third party mapping software such as QGIS.

The Diggitmobile app does leverage your mobile hardware to capture approximate location information, though this cannot be used to map a site and is not a replacement for centimetre-accurate recording hardware.

Diggit generates structured, standardised data thanks to its innovative Diggitmobile app - and so it cannot import data that is formatted or organised differently. However, you can always enter previously-recorded data into the Diggit system by recording it again with Diggitmobile.

What's Diggit's data security like?

What's Diggit's data security
like?

Diggit's data is encrypted in transit and stored and backed up on a server cluster of 3 replicate nodes in the Republic of Ireland (in the GDPR-compliant EEA).

In the rare event that one server is down, a replicate node instantly replaces it with no perceptible change in behaviour or functionality. These servers are backed up daily, and the datacentres housing them are accredited to ISO 27001 (2005) or higher. In the very unlikely scenario that data must be restored from a backup, we estimate the Recovery Time Objective (RTO) for restoring this data to be approximately 10 minutes of downtime.
